"Wellness is an approach to healthcare that emphasizes preventing illness and prolonging life, as opposed to emphasizing treating diseases."
Message from Dr. Michael Kaufmann, Medical Director, OMA's Physician Health Program
As health care providers, our goals for ourselves should be the same as those for our patients – striving for optimal health, vitality and resilience in embracing all of the joy and challenge that life offers. The demands of our profession however, can sometimes put us at odds with these goals.
At the PHP, we regularly receive calls from health professionals who struggle with feeling overwhelmed, stressed and burned-out, and who are looking for support and strategies for successfully combining the roles of person and professional. It is possible to live a healthy, balanced life, and attain fulfillment in our work. Many people who have previously struggled with this balance have been able to make the necessary changes, and they, their patients and their loved ones are grateful for it. Please take the time to browse through our ‘Wellness Centre” for articles and tips for healthy living. Everybody wins when the health care providers are themselves healthy.
