THE FIRST CALL FOR YOURSELF
If you are experiencing difficulties and looking for help, call the Physician Health Program of the OMA. Your first point of contact will be one of our case managers or their assistants. The PHP is a confidential service provided by the Ontario Medical Association that works independently of the Regulatory Colleges.
You can remain anonymous and do not have to provide any identifying information on your first call. Our case managers will:
- Listen to your concerns and provide support
- Identify your needs
- Offer information and advice if appropriate
- Match you to the best possible community resources and support for your issue.
We provide support and referrals for a range of personal problems including:
- Stress and Burnout
- Relationship issues
- Substance use
- Mental health issues
We have access to a wide range of resources across Ontario including:
- Formal assessment and/or treatment services
- Addiction professionals
- GP psychotherapists
- Private psychotherapists (psychologists and social workers)
- Couples counsellors
You may also request an in-person interview with the PHP Medical Director, Associate Medical Director or one of our case managers who will provide a more in-depth triage assessment. PHP clinical staff does not offer clinical treatment. Instead, you will be referred elsewhere when desired. All of the clinicians in our database have experience working with health professionals.
