Is the program confidential?

The Physician Health Program (PHP) is a confidential service provided by the Ontario Medical Association, however all information is kept separate from OMA records.  Exceptions to maintaining confidentiality include:

Risk of harm to self or others
Suspected child abuse or neglect
Driving while impaired
Sexual abuse of patients (must be reported to the CPSO)
A court order 

The PHP preserves the confidentiality of the participants and requires written consent for release of such information.

What is the relationship between the PHP and the Regulatory Colleges?
The PHP works independently of the regulatory colleges.

Is there a cost for the service?
There is no cost for referrals made by the PHP. Some resources do have fees that are not covered by OHIP.

Can I remain anonymous and still receive service?
Yes, callers can remain anonymous. Callers do not have to provide a name or any other identifying information.

Who can call the PHP?
Physicians/Residents/Medical Students
Veterinarians and Veterinary Students
Family members of Physicians and Veterinarians
Others that have concerns about any of the above mentioned Health Professionals
